Welcome to One Hour Photo with Dev Bowman

Hey, it’s Dev. Thanks for being here.

I’m a photographer and writer based in New York City. One Hour Photo is a column where I photograph people (sometimes famous, sometimes not yet) while we talk and hang out. I ask questions as I shoot so they forget to pose, and we end up catching something real. It’s portraits, but with personality!

Why I Started This

I’ve always loved the space between the picture and the person — particularly where they stop performing. One Hour Photo started as a way to catch that. It’s part conversation, part portrait.

I studied psychology because I thought I wanted to become a therapist. I became a photographer instead, but maybe the instinct’s the same — to understand people and make space for them to be real. This column is a way to bring those two worlds of mine together.
